Ride Report

On Saturday 10/3/2009 member’s of Warriors’ Watch Rider’s joined in with A Hero’s Welcome and the Pa. Combat Vets Association to Welcome Home and escort Cpl. Matthew Krepps to his Welcome Home Party, where family and friends celebrated his return after a 9 month deployment to Mushada, Iraq with the Pa. National Guard Stryker Brigade.

After a bittersweet early afternoon Welcome Home at PHL, WWR’s and A Hero’s Welcome Member’s made the trek to the Pottstown rally point on a day that was unseasonably sunny and warm. Joining the 11 bikes and 5 cages were two of Pottstown PD’s cruiser’s, and they were excited as this was their first escort/Welcome Home. While discussing the planned travel route, which was a relatively short distance, Leo eagerly added their input to make it a more memorable ride for our Hero.

Led by Pottstown PD we left the rally point and pulled up in front of Cpl. Krepps’ house where he was told “By order of the Commander in Chief, your wife, you are to get in your car and be escorted to your welcome home party”! We also had the honor of meeting and escorting two of Cpl. Krepps’ fellow National Guardsmen, Spc. Alexander Princler and Sgt. Matthew Timco to make it a 3fer!

We were led through town by Pottstown PD with sirens and lights,  horns blaring and many observer’s waving and honking to our hero’s as they waived out their car windows. We entered Pottstown Memorial Park and wound our way down to the World War II Memorial and Pavilion, passing Cpl Krepps’ family and friend’s cheering the arrival of Matthew.

We did our famous Mug & Hug and coined Matt, thanking him for his service and sacrifice to Our Great Country. After the Mug & Hug we got mugged and hugged by Matthew’s wife Jenna who was beaming over the welcome and escort her Hero was given! She couldn’t take her eyes off of him as his 6 year old daughter and 5 year old son clung to his legs.

Matt cleverly responded to “speech” chants by whipping out a book and quoting Webster’s dictionary definition of a hero. Matt said “ a person distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility and bravery”. He then let everyone know that he thought Jenna was the real hero as she had held things together at home while going through medical treatments including chemotherapy during his deployment. Jenna expressed her gratitude for the support and help of their family. Thank You Both for the sacrifice you voluntarily offer for Our Freedom!

We left the Krepps Family to enjoy their celebration and headed out for a little Post Ride Pie! Maria from A Hero’s Welcome graciously extended an invitation to her home where she and her husband Tom did what they do best, made us feel Welcome! And fed us pie, and the little round things were tartelettes. Thank You Maria and Tom for your hospitality.

A special Thank You to Pottstown PD for the escort and to Bobcat for the leadership.

Welcome Home Cpl. Matthew Krepps.
